About Ms. Gunnessa

Hi!  My name is Ms. Gunnessa Griebe.  I am VERY excited to be a part of Edgewood’s K-2 Team again this year!  More importantly, I am THRILLED to be your child’s teacher. The team in Room 301 is looking forward to the many engaging learning and development opportunities this year has in store.  It is going to be a fun year full of new adventures.  I cannot wait to get to know ALL about your child but please allow me to introduce myself.

I have been involved with educating children since 2010.  I first began as a paraprofessional (instructional assistant or IA) working one-on-one with students with special needs.  I next worked as part of a Kindergarten team as an IA.  After moving to Goldsboro in 2013, I began work at Edgewood Community Developmental School, as an IA in the Preschool Department.  Last summer I earned my Professional Educator’s License (Lateral Entry) in the area of Exceptional Children: General Curriculum and taught a 1st - 2nd grade separate setting class.

Currently, I am attending East Carolina University as a part of the NC TEACH Program.  I also hold an Associate in Applied Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  I am both delighted and humbled to say that my peers nominated me as the 2016-2017 Beginning Teacher of the Year.

I was born and raised outside of Buffalo, New York.  In August of 2010, I retired from the United States Air Force after serving nearly 21 years as an Aerospace Propulsion Specialist or simply put a Jet Engine Mechanic.  Damon and I have three sons; Seth, Armond, and Damonte.  Damon is active duty Air Force stationed at Seymour Johnson.  We have two dogs – a silly Pitbull named Dirk and an adorable Boston Terrier named Hughie.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. My phone number is 919-731-5970 ext. 2527, and my email is gunnessagriebe@wcps.org. Thank you!
