Course Description

This course allows the student to refine mastered grammatical skills in the development of critical analyses, expository essays, and personal narratives. Reading comprehension skills are refined through the study of American literature in relation to the history and development of America. Emphasis is placed on the expansion of vocabulary (ACT included), reading comprehension, and completion of a literary analysis paper.

Classroom Expectations

1.       Be compassionate and respectful towards everyone.

3.      Remain on task.

4.      Remember and practice good manners.

5.      Listen to and follow directions the first time they are given.

6.      DO NOT PLAGIARIZE; DO NOT CHEAT. Plagiarizers and cheaters will earn a grade of zero on any assignment they are caught plagiarizing or cheating on.

7.      Give me your best effort.

Grading Policy

                Your final grade in this course will be determined as follows:         

1.       In-Class Assignments/Homework: 20%

2.      Participation/Quizzes: 25%

3.      Presentations: 15%

4.     Essays/Tests/Projects: 40%
